History of Mira Mesa First Assembly

In 1980, the Southern California District Council of the Assemblies of God met in Mira Mesa (a suburb of the City of San Diego) with a verysmall group of people who were the remnant of an independent church that had been closed. They were interested in becoming an Assembly of God church. They had been meeting at Lowell Mason Elementary School located in Mira Mesa. At this meeting, this small group decided they would affiliate with the Assemblies of God.

The Southern California District Council of the Assemblies of Godthen asked John DeSoto, who was at the time the Assistant Pastor of the San Jacinto Assembly of God church to consider planting an Assembly of God church in Mira Mesa with this small group of people.  He agreed. On August 17, 1980 at a Sunday morning service,John received a 100% vote to become their pastor.

In September of 1980, the church was launched with the nameof Mira Mesa First Assembly of God and officially became anAffiliated Church with the Southern California District Council of the Assemblies of God. The church continued to meet at the same elementary school for the next 10 years.

During this time, in 1985, Mira Mesa First Assembly matured enough to officially become a General Council Affiliated church with the Assemblies of God.

In 1988, Mira Mesa First Assembly purchased land in the Miramar/Scripps Ranch area  and began construction of a new church building.  In June of 1990, the new church building was completed and officially dedicated.

Today, John DeSoto continues to serve as Lead Pastor.
